Longhorns-Arkansas 2009 ‘officially’ posponed

April 4th, 2008 by AustinSportsReport

This isn’t exactly news by this point, but UT Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds confirmed that the Longhorns have allowed the Razorbacks to pull out of their game with the Longhorns in 2009.

Dodds also said the game, which is the return trip for Arkansas after this season’s game in Fayetteville, won’t be played in Austin until after the 2013 season.

Texas filled out what could’ve been an interesting 2009 non-conference schedule with … Louisiana-Monroe (home), Wyoming (away), Central Florida (home) and Floria Atlantic (home).

Wow, Andy Roddick beats Roger Federer

April 4th, 2008 by AustinSportsReport

Though we’ve already said we think it’s great the Austin sports figure is making a comeback, we never expected Andy Roddick to beat Roger Federer at the quarterfinals of the Sony Ericsson Open, 7-4, 4-6, 6-3.

This win, just his second-career over Federer, comes on the heels of his announcement in Sports Illustrated that he’s marrying a swimsuit model.

We wish the best for Roddick and hope the wins and a successful engagement continue.

Memphis basketball player fails drug test; no reason to hate on the team

April 3rd, 2008 by AustinSportsReport

This had nothing to do with the Tigers killing Texas in the Elite Eight, but backup Memphis guard Andre Allen was suspended Wednesday after what was reportedly a failed drug test.

It’s not known yet whether or not it was steroids, narcotics or some good-ole-fashioned marijuana. Either way, he didn’t make the trip to San Antonio, and it sucks for him and the Memphis team that this came out today.

Allen only played 12 minutes and scored just three points against Texas last week, so there is absolutely no reason to think there’s anything fishy about the Memphis players or that they somehow had their performance enhanced. So don’t say it, for our sake and everyone else.

Michael Huff’s Celebrity Weekend

April 2nd, 2008 by AustinSportsReport

As we’ve already reported, Michael Huff is putting on a “Celebrity Weekend.” Today we finally got the details of this event, and it looks pretty legit.

Saturday is the main attraction, with a 2 p.m. autograph session at the Austin Convention Center, followed by a basketball game at 3 p.m.

We might as well tell you now, we can’t be there. But, if any of you can, let us know and feel free to send us any photos or any news that comes out of it. We will have some info from the press who are there, but stuff from you all is always welcome.

We are dissapointed our schedules don’t allow for any on-site coverage of this event, because what makes this event so appealing is who will be there. Click below for a list of the biggest names scheduled to be there and a few comments from us, including some inside info on one of athletes.

Clemens Watch: Want used Rocket memorabilia?

April 2nd, 2008 by AustinSportsReport

Brian McNamee is selling off old stuff he has from Clemens and, according to the man who’s controlling the online auction, “all the steriod guys,” which includes Jose Canseco (who just rleased another book implicating Alex Rodriguez could be a fellow juicer).

The action seems a noble deed, as the proceeds go to a juvinile diabetes charity. But McNamee is still getting his message out there by signing his name to each piece of memorabilia.

And it’s not just his signiature.
